Artist's Comments

My first whack at actually painting with Photoshop and a tablet. I've always admired the art of Warhammer 40K, so this felt like a good way to start. The piece lacks action and his pose is rather stiff, but I wanted to paint as much of him as possible, for the sake of practice.

Fine work! Have to say though that you gave him too big of a bolter if you wanted him to be an assault trooper I believe. I think he needs a bolt pistol instead of a full-size bolter if he's going to have a sword. Has he got a jetpack on his back?

Thank you. To be honest, I've never actually played the table top game or Dawn of War, so my only impression of the 40k world comes from the art and some short stories, which is kind of cool. I guess I didn't realize that there was a pistol version of the bolter. And I don't know what the thing on his back is. I only know that they usually have one.

Thanks again for the comment.

The backpack is the powersupply and life support system for the suit. The powersupply allows him to move freely despite the suit's weight, and the life support system allow him too, with his helmet on, fight in places where the environment itself would be immediately dangerous to life and health, or downright fatal. I.E. outer space, toxic environments/air, extreme heat, etc.

Assault Marines, besides having a bolt pistol and sword, also have a jumppack on their back that about gives them the ability to do almost like Superman and jump very, very far distances very quickly to so they can quickly get into and out of close quarters combat.

:w00t:Very Impressive Design with this Artwork based upon the Black Templar which U Captured well in ur own interpretation that brings out the best in it.

I gotta say...great job. Given the Black Templars and their color scheme along with the very nature of them, you captured this Space Marine very well. My favorite parts are perhaps the power sword still going through the dead Word Bearer (or whatever Chaos SM is there) and the look on the Marine's face. It says Black Templars all over. Well done.
